Froggy Madd Squad – The Musical President
Part DJ / Selector, part artist, part producer and part music historian, Jermaine Lawrence, more popularly known as Froggy Madd Squad is The Musical President with 20 years experience in office.
Born and raised in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and now calling Orlando, Florida home, Froggy began playing music professionally at the age of 10, and by 14 was playing one of the most popular sound systems in Jamaica called Pieces Muzik from Montego Bay. His experience with the sound taught him the art of selecting the perfect song at the perfect time. It also taught him the importance of knowing music of all genres which is reflected in his performance style today. Playing with ease, Froggy is able to play Pop, Alternative, R&B, Hip Hop and Dance music as well as his native Reggae and Dancehall.
In 2001, Froggy founded his own sound system called Madd Squad with long time friend Striker, and later added Phantom, Genius and Dappa Don, who collectively have played on prestigious stages such as Reggae Sumfest and Fully Loaded. Staying true to the roots of the music, the Squad has also played high profile clash events such as World Clash and 45 Shoot Out. In countries such as The U.S., Canada, the UK, and across the Caribbean, they have played with Stone Love, Bass Odyssey, Killmanjaro, Mighty Crown, Tony Matterhorn, Fire Links, Black Kat and One Love just to name a few.
As an artist, and as a producer, Froggy has amassed an impressive catalog with industry approved hit singles with his songs “Hey Ohh,” “Video Light,” “Smokin High Grade” and “Fake Friends” on riddims such as Basik Instink, Island Breeze and Not Tonight and Hot Water (to name a few examples) which were produced by his own Madd Spider label. His most prominent song, “Sanctuary” revisits the spiritual gospel song and adds a 2012 production touch which is appreciated by the younger and mature audiences alike.
Teaming with partner Taranchyla (of Poison Dart Sound), Froggy has worked with Wayne Wonder, Bing Dawg, Delly Ranx, Buju Banton, Sizzla, Gramps Morgan, Bounty Killer and the list goes on. When asked about production, Froggy said "I have always been interested in the production aspect of the business and being a selector for more than twenty years, was like the gate way for me."
Reggae music’s rich and colorful history comes alive during the week when Froggy takes to the radio airwaves on Vibes 105.3 FM out of Boston, Massachusetts and Flava 105.5 FM in Worcester, Massachusetts playing an assortment of music, and giving listeners the history of artists, producers and the evolution of Reggae music itself. Not leaving any artist out of the mix, Froggy profiles lesser known artists and acknowledges their contributions to the music as well.
In 2010, Froggy extended his partnership with Taranchyla from Poison Dart sound, as well as Delly Ranx to form the Dancehall Trinity. The Trinity’s focus remains on producing the best in Reggae and Dancehall music, as well as working with talents Buju Banton, Bounty Killer, Baby Cham, Wayne Wonder and more.
With his combined experience as DJ / Selector, artist, producer and music historian, Froggy is The Musical President, serving the people for more than 20 years!
